About Nick Ward
Nick Ward is an artist, living in Surrey who paints mainly in oil and watercolour. He is a mainly representational painter who loves to paint the local countryside, and living as he does, close to the Surrey Hills, means he has ready access to some of the loveliest countryside around London. Nick is an exhibiting member of the Dorking Group of Artists (and its treasurer!) and the North Weald Art Group and he regularly shows his work at both groups' exhibitions. He started to paint when he was in his teens, and now that he has retired, he is able to devote himself to the task of painting. Although much of his inspiration is local, Nick loves to travel and in recent years has walked the Inca trail in Peru, climbed Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, trekked to Everest Base Camp in Nepal and has just returned from a trip to Australia, including Tasmania and Uluru.
Nick paints for pleasure and sells his work, mainly locally, but he also undertakes commissions, including portraits of children (which he won't display on his website), dogs and other pets. Other recent commissions include a large oil painting of a country house and another oil painting of golfers playing a hole for a former captain of a local golf club. Nick enjoys the challenge of commissions which he finds often take him out of his comfort zone and, perhaps for that reason have enabled him to produce some of his best work.
Not so long ago, Nick opened his garden as part of a village initiative to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Society and took the opportunity to open his studio. You can find pictures of his studio (unusually clean and tidy) and sporting a selection of his work in the gallery section of this website.
